In 2026 the Jill Heiman Vision Fund (JHVF) targets grants and projects related to basic needs<\/em><\/strong>. <\/em>Grant proposals of all amounts will be considered. Typical grants in the past have been in the range of $4,000 – $6,000, if the impact can be demonstrated and funds are available. The precise amount of money to be allocated will not be known until September 2026 (after the Fair).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

This grant fund honors the memory of Jill Heiman, the Fair\u2019s founding attorney. It supports tax-exempt organizations in Lane County involved in an annually selected focus area such as environmental protection or basic human needs. Donations are provided by Fair volunteers, artists, staff, performers and guests.<\/p>

The Kareng Fund\/Caring Fund, <\/strong>which provides a safety net for local artisans. Donations will support artisans who experience problems such as medical situations, vehicle failures, fires or thefts that compromise the artist\u2019s ability to work.<\/p>

Mid Lane Cares<\/strong> for its shower and laundry program. Volunteers staff the hygiene program at Fern Ridge Service Center that benefits unhoused individuals, as well as families and children with unstable housing from the Fern Ridge School District. Donations will help fund a new water heater and provide soap and other hygiene supplies.<\/p>

Oregon Community Asylum Network<\/strong> to help ICE victims meet basic survival needs. Donations will go toward shelter, utilities, transportation, legal representation and medical care for asylum seekers. The program prioritizes families torn apart by ICE, and family members who have been traumatized, kidnapped, deported, or sent to detention camps.<\/p>

Volunteers in Medicine<\/strong> to provide free health care to low-income adults in Lane County. About 65 percent of patients are Spanish-speaking, and VIM offers home-delivered medications and telehealth options for patients worried about the uptick in federal immigration enforcement policy. VIM does not share any patient information with federal or state entities.<\/p>

Willamette Food & Farm Coalition<\/strong> for food equity programs in Veneta and Oakridge. Donations will improve access to nutritious, fresh food by directing surplus harvests from local farms to nearby food pantries. Funds will also be used for two incentive programs: Protein Bucks offers $10 tokens for purchase of locally raised protein and Little Sprouts hands out $5 tokens to children 12 and under for purchasing fresh fruits, vegetables or plant starts.<\/p>

All of these nonprofit organizations offer programs that fit JHVF\u2019s mission of meeting basic needs, as well as the Oregon Country Fair\u2019s charitable purpose of providing benefits to the community.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t

Five nonprofit groups with proposals related to the environment and sustainability have received grants from the donations made to the Jill Heiman Vision Fund at the 2025 Oregon Country Fair.<\/span>\u00a0<\/p>

Siuslaw Watershed Council<\/strong> will plant native plants to help restore riparian zones on homeowners\u2019 lands bordering riverways and lakes.
Shift Community Cycles<\/strong>, which refurbishes used bicycles for area youth, will provide free Bike\u00a0Kits of a lock, helmet and lights for recipients in need.
Plaza de Nuestra Comunidad<\/strong> will help pay for a Garden and Community Engagement\u00a0Coordinator to facilitate events at their seven community organic gardens in Lane County.
Community Supported Shelters<\/strong> will install two greywater filtration systems that provide an\u00a0environmental approach to wastewater in their Safe Spot Communities.
The Civil Liberties Defense Center<\/strong> will increase its educational trainings to empower local\u00a0environmental activists and organizations.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Five nonprofit groups with proposals related to the environment and sustainability have received grants from the donations made to the Jill Heiman Vision Fund at the 2024 Oregon Country Fair.<\/span><\/p>

Beyond Toxics <\/strong>will educate the public about the harmful effects of artificial turf on wildlife and water
quality, focusing on playing fields proposed at Golden Gardens park in the Bethel area.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/strong>Cascadia Wildlands <\/strong>will outfit a camp kitchen for the wildCATs volunteers, who field check proposed timber sales on federally managed lands.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/strong>McKenzie River Trust <\/strong>will partner with the Long Tom Watershed Council to remove invasive species from the Oregon oak and prairie habitat at Coyote Spencer Wetlands to promote native plant growth. The property sits at the confluence of two creeks in the Long Tom Watershed.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/strong>Northwest Youth Corps <\/strong>will purchase work boots, gloves and work shirts for youth participants with financial barriers to participation. Funds will also repair zippers on the sleeping bags that are loaned out each year. Youths will get an hour each day of accredited environmental science curriculum and spend most of their time outdoors planting or maintaining trees.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/strong>Whole Earth Nature School <\/strong>will pay park rental fees for its summer nature camps that helps connect youth with nature. The weeklong camps give young people the chance to learn about local ecology and to build their outdoor skills.<\/p>

The OCF Board triples the power of each gift by matching $2 for every $1 donated, up to a total of $20,000. The fund honors Jill Heiman, the attorney who helped facilitate the Fair\u2019s incorporation as a nonprofit and its original land purchase. Since it began 27 year ago, the Jill Heiman Vision Fund has granted more than $588,000 to nonprofit agencies.<\/p>

Philanthropy was the catalyst that began the Oregon Country Fair, has been essential to developing its long-lived success, and will provide opportunities that further its mission into the future.<\/em><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Centro Latino Americano <\/strong>will offer programs and workshops such as seed-saving and basket-making through its L\u00edderes (Leaders) program in the Organic Community Garden. The program helps participants develop leadership skills and build a support network as families learn to grow, harvest, and process organic food.<\/p>

Community Supported Shelters <\/strong>will install greywater filtration systems to provide an environmental approach to wastewater in their Safe Spot Communities. CSS is working with the University of Oregon\u2019s Landscape Architecture and Environmental Studies to build the four-planter filtration systems.<\/p>

Looking Glass <\/strong>will purchase tools and gear for the Lane-Metro Youth Corps for projects that will restore natural resources around Lane County.<\/p>

Northwest Center for Alternatives to Pesticides (NCAP) <\/strong>will boost awareness of communities impacted by pesticide use through a media campaign and radio show outreach.<\/p>

Four nonprofit organizations that help meet people\u2019s basic needs have been selected to receive the donations to the Jill Heiman Vision Fund from the 2022 Oregon Country Fair.<\/span><\/p>

Mid Lane Cares <\/strong>will put the donations into the Emergency Assistance program serving vulnerable residents in the Fern Ridge area. The Emergency Fund provides help with rent and utility bills to prevent homelessness, bus passes for access to services, and other emergency needs.<\/p>

Looking Glass <\/strong>will finance some renovations of a new home in the Rural Program in Cottage Grove. The rural program currently operates out of a small, rented facility. The new home will allow Looking Glass to expand their services to at-risk youth between the ages of 11 and 21 throughout Southeast Lane County, including Saginaw, Dorena, Culp Creek, Creswell, and Cottage Grove.<\/p>

Hope & Safety Alliance <\/strong>(formerly WomenSpace) will install a new roof on Jamie\u2019s House, a new emergency shelter that can house up to 22 individuals.<\/p>

Community Supported Shelters <\/strong>will purchase basic essentials to help clients get through the winter, including warm clothing, cough drops, tissues, prescriptions, warm food, and sleeping bags.<\/p>

For 2019, donations amounted to a record $59,353! We met our goal to reach $50,000 for our 50th Anniversary<\/span>\u2014and more!<\/em> Thanks to generous donors, to date this fund has given more than $525,000 over the years. One dollar or food voucher at a time, our donations are making a difference. This year, your generosity benefited the following organizations:<\/span><\/p>

Assistance League<\/strong> used its grant to purchase healthy, nutritious foods \u2014 including fresh produce \u2014 for the Weekend Food Pantry and Backpack Programs. The two programs coordinate with 4J and Bethel school districts to reduce child hunger by improving access to healthy foods for families in need.<\/p>

Carry It Forward<\/strong> will applied the funds to constructing a laundry and cleaning station facility to serve homeless campers. The grant will purchase shelving tables, storage cubbies, and supplies, plus training on cleanup safety. Carry It Forward offers humane camp cleanup by bagging items at abandoned campsites that can be cleaned and reused \u2014 such as warm clothing, tents, blankets and sleeping bags \u2014 while safely disposing garbage. The group launders the retrieved items and cycles them back, either to the original owner or to someone else in need.<\/p>

Catholic Community Services<\/strong> will put the grant toward basic needs support for Lane County participants in the Refugees and Asylum-Seekers Assistance program. Advocates are matched with asylum-seekers and refugees to help them find housing, access health care, learn language skills, get transportation, and search for a job.<\/p>

Planned Parenthood<\/strong> purchased a new auto-clave, which sterilizes medical instruments used in the clinic.<\/p>

St. Vincent de Paul<\/strong> used its grant to help buy a 15-passenger van that will transport families enrolled in the First Place Night Shelter program and the St. Vincent de Paul Youth House for homeless teens. The van will transport up to 20 families a day, and shuttle youths to school and extra-curricular activities.<\/p>
