We hand-cut original patterns out of leather upon which we create designs using steel tool stamps, after which we sew them together through punched holes with leather cord. Some are then inlaid with various hand-woven macrame designs integrating a variety of gemstones and fossils using durable polyester cord. In other pieces, the gemstones and fossils are inlaid directly into the leather. I use solid metal rivets and buckles, rings, clasps, and zippers to complete these functional and often convertible designs. Much attention is paid to creating pieces with an assortment of artistically cohesive styles and palettes in an attempt to engender an array of feelings in my customers.

Gerardo, the founder of Elquino Arte, is an artisan who works full-time creating functional products and art. He works exclusively in his techniques: leathercraft and micro-macrame. When he is not building his business, he participates in his community in beautiful Eugene, Oregon.

Soon after my apprenticeship, I began making washable sheepskin slippers and leather sport sandals in adult sizes. Through the years, I’ve added children’s shoes, custom clothing, accessories and I offer orthopedic footwear, which is designed with the customer.

Most of my pre-made footwear is available on my website. When someone wants a custom Moccasin or an orthopedic designed shoe, they contact me directly so we can talk about the design and fitting for their project. I don’t sell the custom-fitted and designed Moccasins online, as I prefer to do the foot mold in person when we design your shoes. It’s very special and I want to be sure the fitting is done right and I understand your needs and desires for your custom shoes. My work is always guaranteed and made with washable fine quality leathers.

I have been booth partners with The Moccasin Company and Cool Shoes for many years (Dave and Penny). The 3 of us were in the original Moccasin booth and branched out to booth 343 in 1982. I think you’ll enjoy seeing the variety of leatherwork in our shared space.
